The news has hit the media this week, the Northern Pacific Seastar (Asterias amurensis) has been found for the first time at Tidal River, Wilsons Promontory!! At this stage it’s unknown how far this latest incursion has spread. This new incursion is the furthest east along the Victorian coast that the predator seastar has been detected. Tidal River joins San Remo (Western Port) as sites infected by the menacing seastar in the past 10 months. Staff have been working hard at Tidal River to remove as many individuals before the spawning season occurs later this winter. Continue reading
